Paper Mache soil blocks are bummers

Four of the eight blocks planted germinated in three days. Today the ninth day there has been no further germination. I removed the dome for a closer look and a very offensive sour order came out and reached the up stairs of the house. I don’t know if the gas was methane or CO2 or a combination of the two but they are wrapped in plastic and in the trash.

  1. That’s too bad, John. Reminds me of the time I used alfalfa pellets to fertilize my seedlings. The odor after a couple of days was so offensive the plants had to be moved out to the shed!

My block maker, that you made from the Tupperware, broke this year. It was the plastic container that broke, so I used the parts to make another one from a medicine bottle, but it’s a bit small. I’m going to try to find a plunger disk to fit a large vitamin bottle for next year. I sure got a lot of use from the one you made me!

At your hardware store ask for a fender washer. You can get them 1 1/2″ and 2″ with a 1/4 hole
